About Leixlip Festival

History

In 1989 one of the aims of the newly elected Town Commission was to hold a community event that would bring together the increasingly growing population of Leixlip and at the same time highlight the attractions Leixlip had to offer. This was to be achieved by hosting an annual festival for the town.

The Committee

In 1990 a voluntary committee known as the Leixlip Festival Committee was formed. Its members represented business, cultural/heritage, education, sports, all aspects of life in Leixlip including members of the Town Commission. The inaugural festival took place on the June Bank Holiday weekend 1990.

Aims and Objectives

• To provide a quality summer festival for the people of Leixlip, that would encourage them to stay in Leixlip and in turn invite their friends or relatives to spend the June Bank Holiday Weekend in Leixlip.

• To promote trade and industry within the area and in particular highlight the wide range of hotels, restaurants, bars and cafés.

• To promote the many historical and tourist attractions in and surrounding Leixlip.

• To encourage awareness among the community of the positive aspects of living in Leixlip and its environs, and advance the community spirit already evident in the region.

• To provide training project that offers quality training to its participants and assist the Committee in the administration work of the Festival.
